ABOUT US
The Beverly and Jim Rogers Museum of Lone Pine Film History is located on Highway 395 on the south end of the small Eastern Sierra community's Main Street. It is a private institution run by a local Board of Directors and is a 501(c) 3 Non-profit California Corporation organized for public benefit. Its mission is to celebrate and preserve the movie history of Lone Pine, Death Valley and the Eastern Sierra areas. It also explores the interpretation and artistic expression of the western landscape. |
A SHORT HISTORY OF THE MUSEUM |
The Beverly and Jim Rogers Museum of Lone Pine Film History celebrates
and preserves the long and varied film history of Lone Pine, Death
Valley and the Eastern Sierra. The Museum began as an outgrowth
of the Lone Pine Film Festival, which was founded by Dave Holland,
Kerry Powell and several community members still involved with this
annual event. |
 |
Mr. Jim Rogers, of Sunbelt Communications, began supporting
the Festival after he visited the event, attracted by his fondness
for the Western and the simple message most of the films provide.
Six years ago at the end of one Festival, this active philanthropist
suggested to the local community that they establish a permanent
home to preserve the film history the Festival celebrated.
He provided a $1 million gift to construct the 10,500
square foot building that houses the Museum. It represents the first
half of the planned museum and opened in October 2006. Mr. Rogers,
who is also the Chancellor of the University of Nevada system, has
also donated major components of his extensive western collection
to the Museum, which displays them in telling the story of filming
in the area. Mr. Chris Langley has also donated his extensive Lone
Pine collection of posters, artifacts and photographs of Lone Pine
film history. The Museum welcomes loans and gift related to their
mission.
